As you are creating your campaigns it’s important to be aware of the difference between email-safe fonts and web-safe fonts.
Email-safe fonts are fonts that will be rendered across all email clients as they are the default fonts on different computers, devices, and operating systems. As they exist in all systems they are considered email-safe so it is safe to assume that these fonts will work regardless of what system or device your audience is using to view your content on. The list of email-safe fonts includes:
- Arial
- Century Gothic
- Courier New
- Garamond
- Georgia
- Helvetica
- Impact
- Lucida
- Times New Roman
- Tahoma
- Trebuchet
- Verdana
Web fonts are not always found on all email clients, operating systems, or devices and, if selected as the font of the communication, may result in a fallback font (an email-safe font, listed above) being used instead, depending on which email client is used to open the communication. While web fonts are preferred for their range of options and creativity, in email communications you cannot be 100% certain that your audience will be able to see them.
The following list of email clients does support web fonts:
- Apple Mail
- iOS Mail (default mail app on iPhones and iPads)
- Android Mail (default mail app; not Gmail)
- Samsung Mail
- Outlook for Mac
- Outlook App (not the web version)
Please note that, among other email clients, Gmail is not included on this list and as a result, does not support web fonts. This means that if you have selected a web font for your email campaign, a Gmail recipient will receive the campaign in the pre-defined fallback font of your selected web font.
All of these email-safe fonts are available on the Revinate Marketing platform so designing your email messages to deliver and render well on all systems is simple and easy.
