Segmentation allows you to target specific guests in your database. This is a good tool when using Stay Date in creating seasonal, holiday, and special event campaigns. Revinate allows for the use of AND statements and OR statements.
Sometimes you might be unsure when to use the AND statement and when to use the OR statement. In this article, we will explain when to use either when using ‘Stay Date’ with multiple date ranges.
‘Stay Date’ is commonly used when creating segments for transactional (confirmation, modification, and cancellation) and pre-arrival campaigns that are seasonal or are related to holidays and special events.
To ensure all guests receive the correct version of your campaigns when using ‘Stay Date’, ensure you follow the guidelines below:
When you use STAY DATE IS BETWEEN use OR
When you use STAY DATE IS NOT BETWEEN use AND
Example
A real-life example would be ensuring that any guests who stay over specified dates around Thanksgiving or Christmas receive one campaign (e.g. a campaign with a non-refundable cancellation policy), and any guests not staying those dates, will receive another campaign (e.g. a campaign with the property’s standard cancellation policy).
Overlaps
When creating segments following these guidelines, any guest who has a stay that overlaps with the ‘Stay Date is between’ range will be eligible for the STAY DATE IS BETWEEN segment (e.g. 11/25/2019 - 11/30/2019). However, the guest’s stay must fall entirely outside of the ‘Stay Date is not between’ range to qualify for the STAY DATE IS NOT BETWEEN segment (e.g. 12/17/2019 - 12/20/2019). This ensures a guest will not qualify for both segments.
Here is a further explanation of the logic used:
Using the example date ranges of Nov 27 - Dec 1 (Thanksgiving Holiday) & Dec 21 - Jan 1 (Christmas Holiday)
- Use OR when you use STAY DATE IS BETWEEN Nov 27 - Dec 1 OR Dec 21 - Jan 1 to include the dates shown in blue:
{----} {Nov 27 - Dec1} {----} {Dec 21 - Jan 1} {----}
This will include all stays that are between or overlap Nov 27 - Dec 1 or Dec 21 - Jan 1 thereby excluding all other dates.
- Use AND when you use STAY DATE IS NOT BETWEEN Nov 27 - Dec 1 AND Dec 21 - Jan 1, to include the dates shown in blue:
{----} {Nov 27 - Dec 1}{----}{Dec 21 - Jan 1}{----}
If you use OR for STAY DATE IS NOT BETWEEN Nov 27 - Dec 1 OR Dec 21 - Jan 1, you are including the dates shown in blue:
{----}{Nov 27 - Dec 1} {----} {Dec 21 - Jan 1}{----}
OR
{----} {Nov 27 - Dec 1} {----} {Dec 21 - Jan 1} {----}
This segment will not be effective as you are including everyone because each OR statement includes the other OR statement’s exclusion, mutually negating each other.
