You can send your campaigns in many different languages from Revinate by designing them in the language of your choice and using segmentation to target the correct audience. When using features such as upsells, transactional campaigns or double opt-in you should also add translations for the feature’s settings.
Language settings
Here you can add the language(s) you want to use. Select "add language" in the upper right corner. A new window will pop up where you can select the language you want to add.
Select the language and save. The language will now show in the list of languages you have set up. You will be able to create campaigns and translate some features like upsells to the languages selected here.
*Note that if you have a group marketing account, you will need to add languages to both the group account and all applicable properties individually.
Now that you have added the languages you want to use, will need to add translations to:
- Upsells (if using Marketing Pro and upsells are set up)
- Double Opt-In (if sending DOI campaigns/links)
- Data Field Mappings (for some merge tag values)
- Campaigns (as needed)
Translating Upsells & Double Opt-In
Go to your account settings and navigate to Upsell Settings and/or Double Opt-In to add translations for these features. You will see the translate option in the upper right corner of each section where translations can be added. Select ‘Translate’ to select the specific language you would like to translate.
When you select the language you want to translate a new window will appear where you will add your translation and click save.
Once you have added translations you can also click on the ‘preview landing page’ option to select the language you want to view. This is a great way to double check that you have translated all fields.
Data Field Mappings
Data Field Mappings are where you can add guest friendly translations to PMS codes such as Room Code and Rate Code so they can be used in personalised campaigns. To translate these values, locate the Data Field Mappings page in the property account settings. Scroll down past the default account language to see the additional language(s) you have added.
Click on the translate button for each field and fill in your translation in the language selected.
*Important note: When translations are missing they will automatically default to your default language.
Sending Campaigns in Other Languages
To send campaigns in multiple languages, you will have one campaign and segment per language.
Language Segments: To ensure guests receive the correct language variation, you must create one segment per campaign language variation. If you do record language in your PMS and it is supported in your Revinate integration then you can use the Language field to segment. If Language is not supported or not tracked, then you should use Guest Location and select the relevant countries for each language. If you’re not sure if language or country is tracked/supported, check your Database Insights report to confirm.
When sending campaigns in multiple languages it is important to make sure you are not unintentionally excluding guests. To do this, and to keep your segments simple, we recommend creating a sort of catch all segment. For example, to send campaigns in German and English, with English being the default language, you would create two segments: one where Language/Location IS German/German speaking countries and another segment where Language/Country is not German/German speaking countries. This way anyone who is not specifically noted as German speaking will receive an English campaign.
Multi-lingual Campaigns: Each campaign has an assigned language. This is set on the ‘Settings’ step when building a campaign. The campaign language will determine the language used for merge tags included in the Data Field Mappings and the Revinate landing pages linked in the campaign (upsells, double opt-in) as well as the pre-set links in campaign templates (view in browser, unsubscribe).
The campaign language will not translate your email content. This part you will need to translate in the email editor. Once you have selected your campaign language, you can then continue designing your campaign content as you do with any other campaign.
Removing languages
When you go to the language settings and you click remove behind the language. You will be asked to confirm removing the language. Hereafter the translations are removed from your account. However, if you add the language back at a later time, the translations you once created will be back as well.
